Moving to a Metro
The new Metro timetable is a significant step towards providing our customers with a metro-style service.
Three new stations will open, one line will be extended and a further 353 services per week will be added to the timetable.
A three-kilometre extension of the existing Epping line to a new Premium Station at South Morang will officially open. The line will also undergo a name change to the South Morang line.
New stations will also open on both the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines at Cardinia Road (between Officer and Pakenham stations) and Lynbrook (between Dandenong and Merinda Park stations).
But most importantly, one of the key characteristics of a metro-style service is to provide customers with a high frequency of services arriving at stations at regular, or ‘clock-face’, intervals.
With this new timetable, services every 10 minutes to and from the city on lines to Frankston, Dandenong and Ringwood will be introduced between 10am and 7pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
With 353 new services per week being added in April, the total number of services per week added to the Metro timetable in just over two years will be 1,484.
While we still have a long way to go, this step brings us closer to providing the high frequency, high capacity metro-style service our customers want and this city needs.
